Saint James Youth in Community

Sundays at 9:30 AM

Our youth community (grades 6-12) meets weekly on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Chapel. During the course of the school year, we explore spiritual themes through scripture, art, history, creativity and contemplative practices. Our current theme is beauty.

For the Fall of 2017

A Beautiful Life: living the call to love and show mercy
Building on our confirmation class last spring, September gatherings will include introductions, games, and a youth version of ‘what’s my ministry’ with opportunities to explore Saint James’ ministries, as an acolyte, lector, usher, choir member, or musician. Dru Westbrook and Carol Hartley will share more information.

Creation of Beauty – Sacred Geometry & Stained Glass
October gatherings will focus on beauty in sacred geometry. Leo Shelley will offer an historical tour of sacred geometry around Saint James’ campus on the first day. On the remaining days Jonathan Colon will provide young people the space to create sacred geometry with ink. This unit will build upon Jonathan’s introduction to sacred geometry from last January.

Worship God in the Beauty of Holiness: Contemplative Practices
Timed to offer a place for peacefulness amid exams and holidays, December allows young people the time to re-center and to “worship god in the beauty of holiness” through contemplative practices, such as meditation and gentle movement.
