Contemplative Prayer: Teaching

Exploring other spiritual disciplines

Join Fr David on Tuesday night December 3rd for meditation at 7 PM in the Chapel and then a conversation about the cheerful topic of depression. He will use passages from Martin Laird’s book, An Ocean of Light, to talk about the uninvited guests of our lives which is to say, depression and its friends.

Fr. Laird is a professor of early Christian studies at Villanova University. He is renowned for having his students sit in silence as part of their learning process in studying ancient church history. But this book, like his previous two, is not a dry academic treatment of contemplation. Rather, it is warmly written, practical and down-to-earth, and filled with insight and instruction to help anyone who embraces contemplative prayer to pray deeply and well.
—Carl McColman book review

Meditation is from 7 – 7:30 PM in the Chapel. Come to all or part of the evening!

Each Tuesday from 7 – 8:15 PM in the Chapel, we learn other ways to enter into contemplative prayer. We believe that contemplative prayer is a gift or a grace from God and that there are many ways to enter into that gift. We focus not only on meditation but also on other contemplative spiritual practices, discussions and readings. Following this time of exploration, there is space and silence to process and share individual experiences.
