Recording Session, British Brass Band

May 12 @ 7:00 PM

The Lancaster British Brass Band will be returning to Saint James on Thursday, May 12 at 7 PM for a special recording session and you are invited to be a part of the ‘live studio audience!’

This 30 piece band performed at Saint James last August and enjoyed it so much they asked if they could use the sanctuary to record video and audio of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Variations for Brass Band.

The band will be conducted that evening by Dr. Stephen Allen, who recently completed a multi year study of this work which was published (link to the journal article) recently in the Musical Times, the oldest continuously publishing academic journal of classical music in the world.

This event is free, however you are asked to be in your seat by 7 PM; pews towards the rear of the sanctuary will be available. Keep in mind this is a recording session and not a concert, so expect to hear the Vaughan Williams several times; you may leave quietly between takes as you wish!
