Contemplative Mass

The Lord’s supper in a contemplative setting

Angels on the Apse CeilingSaint James also offers a contemplative mass on the last Sunday of the month at 5 PM. The worship time is at a slower pace with periods of silence, a spiritual practice, and a hint of incense.

Each month features a different theme from mystics and saints to movement and prayer, along with music, chanting, meditation, and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

Outdoor Contemplative Masses

June, July and August at Lancaster Country Day School

During the summer months  of June, July and August, the contemplative mass is held outside at Lancaster Country Day School. This setting offers an opportunity to explore contemplative worship in the beauty of God’s creation. The mass consists of a very simplified liturgy with readings and music centered around earth and creation. A twenty-minute period is also incorporated into the service to meditate, sit in nature, or walk the labyrinth. The mass concludes with the Holy Eucharist.
