Mindful Yoga Workshops
Led by Saint James yoga instructors
Wednesday, May 10 | 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Fascia, Breath and Movement with Sandra Orndorff: Explore the connections between your connective tissue, your joints, and your stiffness. Learn gentle movements to self-massage in order to release pain and prep the body for bigger movements. As breath brings vitality to fascia and our internal organs, learning breath movements also aids in the release of fascial tension. Props will be provided. Click here to register for this workshop.
Saturday, May 20 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Foundations of Yoga with Peggy Shaffer: Explore foundational poses of yoga in a mindful manner and learn to safely modify them to accommodate different body types and abilities. Attention will also be given to incorporating breath into your movement. This workshop is for those new to a physical yoga practice and more experienced practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of an asana practice. Matts and other props are provided. The Joy of Yoga, Gardening & Outdoors with Jen Burnett: Love outdoor yoga, but don't own a single gardening glove? Join us for a workshop exploring how yoga can reduce your discomfort after a long day of pruning, pulling, digging and cultivating. We'll practice postures for strengthening and stretching all muscles—especially those used in gardening. We'll also learn poses that can reduce stress and improve safety in the garden. About our instructors
Sandra Orndorff
Sandra Orndorff, a Yoga and Meditation Instructor, PA Certified Family Recovery Coach and Enneagram Certified Life Coach has 20 years of Yoga and Pilates as well as her experience of embodiment coaching. She understands the connection between the body and the soul and how important moving the body is to our vitality.
As a graduate of Evolution Power Yoga she has a grounded education in the connection to physical body not just as poses but also from the mechanics of the body. Sandra leads each session with an intention, a grounding, and a short Shavasana.
Peggy Shaffer
After practicing for a number of years, Peggy Shaffer received her 200-hour training at Evolution Power Yoga in Lancaster and a 300-hour training through Create Karma in Lancaster. Additional certifications include Yin Yoga from Nectar & Nurture Yoga (Ryah Dekis) and both Chair and Restorative Yoga from Ignite Power Yoga in York. She has continued online courses with Yoga International and Yoga Alliance in various topics including anatomy.
Peggy encourages a slower pace to enable students to ‘land’ in the pose as well as use of props to make all poses attainable. She wants yoga to be accessible and fun for everyone.
Jen Burnett
Jen Burnett has been teaching yoga since her graduation from the Evolution Power Yoga Learning Institute, where she completed the 250HR Access training program. Her intention in becoming a yoga teacher was to make yoga accessible to seniors. She established several chair yoga offerings, including a weekly AIM class at the Senior Center at the Lancaster Rec, and a weekly Virtual Senior Center class with the Lancaster County Office of Aging.
She is active on the board at AIM to Empower, which is a non-profit focused on changing lives through yoga. Jen guides her classes with a focus on gentle movement, inquiry, and meditation. Her classes place an emphasis on breath, the link between the physical body and the mind: healthy breathing makes the mind relaxed, fresh, and vibrant.
