Be an Advocate

You can make a difference

Advocacy comes from the Latin word advocatus: “a pleader on one's behalf” or “one called to aid.” Advocates are working to support the interests of a group of individuals, many of whom may not be able to help themselves. Examples of advocacy can include letter-writing/petitions, research, social media and in-person action.

Consider joining an advocacy group listed below. Even the smallest of advocacy efforts can add up to big change.

Since early 2017, POWER INTERFAITH Central PA has been convening faith leaders from across Lancaster, York, Lebanon and Dauphin Counties to envision a new way of carrying out faith in the public sphere, of bringing people together across racial difference, and of being a moral voice on issues that impact the marginalized living in those counties. Central PA United believes that the power of the people in our communities can transform the future to foster an environment where all can prosper. They are building independent political power in Central Pennsylvania for working-class families. They organize issue-based campaigns and strategic electoral politics. By participating in issues-based campaigns, they believe they can measure where communities stand on topics such as safe and affordable housing, criminal justice reform, renters’ rights, tackling climate change and more. Once they know where communities stand, they can run candidates based on what the people want, not corporate interests. Central PA United believes in residents’ right to co-governance, returning decision-making power to the community, and empowering them in daily life decisions, not just during elections.
