Service in worship

Alta

Worship Committee

Ever wonder how our worship services run so smoothly? It’s the result of many hands and many hours of thoughtful preparation each week. The Worship Committee coordinates each service and is supported by acolytes, the altar guild, eucharistic ministers, intercessors, lectors, music, sound techs and engineers, ushers, weekday prayer leaders and vergers.

Acolytes

Youth in grades 4 and above assist in worship on Sundays at 10:30 AM by carrying the processional cross, lighting and extinguishing candles, carrying torches in the procession and carrying the gospel book.

Altar Guild

The altar guild prepares the altar for all services and supports our sacramental life by refilling candles, laundering altar linens and caring for the items used during the Eucharist. We joyfully gather with family and friends to arrange plants and flowers for special feast days such as Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter.

Video, Sound Engineering & Livestream

We are actively recruiting volunteers for our vital tech ministry. No experience is necessary, but you must be comfortable with technology and be willing to learn. The ministry supports all services, weddings, funerals and special events. The minimum age for participation is 16, though exceptions are possible.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic ministers are the chalice bearers at communion. They undergo special training and are licensed by the diocese to perform this meaningful task.

Intercessors and Lectors

Intercessors lead the Prayers of the People in the worship services. At the 10:30 AM service on Sundays, intercessors also provide individual prayers of intercession and thanksgiving at the baptismal font during communion. Youth and adult lectors read the scripture lessons during services.

Vergers

Vergers help coordinate worship for our 10:30 AM and other major services. They are involved in training and working with worship volunteers and are actively involved in all worship services.

Ushers

Ushers provide a first impression of hospitality at Saint James as they greet people at the door. They also assist in preparing the sanctuary for parishioners and guests and stand at the ready should any emergencies occur during a service.

Ushers are needed weekly at the following services.

  • Saturday 5 PM
  • Sunday 10:30 AM
  • Sunday 8:30 AM
