Children's Chapel

Church for children during our 10:30 AM Mass on Sundays

Children’s Chapel* meets weekly during the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass. Children and youth ages 3 and above begin the morning in the sanctuary where they can experience the processional and the opening congregational prayers.

After the opening Collect, children are invited to the front of the sanctuary to make their way to the chapel and participate in songs, prayers, brief meditation and storytelling of the day’s Gospel and/or New and Old Testament readings.

The Godly Play® teaching method includes using beautiful wooden figures, candles, and symbolic colors to aid our storytelling as we listen to God’s word for us. Children often respond to the story using simple art supplies including crayons, construction paper, origami paper and Model Magic air dry clay.

Children return to the Sanctuary during the passing of the Peace. They are welcome to take part in Holy Communion.

A children’s shelf located in the Narthex offers items that may aid your child’s worship experience during the remainder of the Mass. Crayons, religious books, finger labyrinths and other items are available for your child’s use. Please return the items to the shelf at the end of the service.

Summertime Children's Chapel

When the weather is nice in the summer, we gather for Children's Chapel alongside the vegetable garden plots and our growing native plant woodland area, located in the northeast corner of campus by the gazebo. Click here to learn more about Children's Garden's at Saint James.

Episcopal Relief & Development's Abundant Life Garden Project curriculum accompanies our gardening.
