Saint James Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion Statement
At Saint James, we are all part of the body of Christ seeking to follow the prophets who call us to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with the Lord our God. (Micah 3) In the baptismal covenant of the Episcopal Church we promise to “strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.”(Book of Common Prayer p.305)
We are therefore a community who desires to welcome all people whether they are seeking a new sense of God, a new purpose for their lives or simply the common good. We want to include you as we gather as a parish at the altar, or around our Urban Well or the 12 step groups that meet on campus.
As a congregation we respect our differences and rejoice in all that we have in common. We welcome everyone to God’s table ecumenically. We seek to include everyone in our ministries, wherever they can best serve and be served, regardless of race, ethnic background, gender identity, abilities, socioeconomic or marital status, sexual orientation, age, faith history or circumstance of life.
We are committed to loving God and our neighbors by fully sharing in all the ministries, prayers, sacraments and canons of the Episcopal Church, in our Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, nationally and in the Anglican Communion worldwide. We invite you to think of Saint James as your spiritual home in the beloved community of God.
