Join Professor Randall Zachman to explore the thinking behind George Washington’s 1790 letter to the Jewish congregation in Newport, Rhode Island, in which he wrote that the new nation gives no sanction to bigotry nor assistance to persecution. Today, the letter is considered a stepping stone for the First Amendment that would come the following year.

Registration is required for catering with a suggested donation of $25 for adults.
