work of the Episcopal Church

The Rev. William Augustus Muhlenberg established the Lancaster branch of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church whose members were the leading members of the congregation. The purpose of the Society was to send missionaries to the new territories and states on the western frontier.
