Come join us for “Rise from the Ashes: A Lenten Bible Study of the Psalms” as we embark on a journey of reflection and spiritual growth. Lent, a sacred season of fasting, prayers, and almsgiving, is an opportunity for us to connect with God on a deeper level. The symbolism of forty days reminds us of Jesus’ time in the wilderness before his resurrection, inspiring us to rise from our own challenges and find strength in our faith.

In this inclusive study, we will explore the Psalms, which beautifully capture the human experience with God. Regardless of your familiarity with the Bible, whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned scholar, we invite you to join us. The Psalms touch upon various emotions, from grief and despair to joy and hope, offering us valuable insights into our own journeys.

Dr. Emerson Powery, Professor of Biblical Studies, Messiah University

Dr. Emerson Powery, Professor of Biblical Studies, Messiah University, will join our first session to help us explore general themes and history of the Book of Psalms.

Our study will encompass a range of themes and readings, each designed to guide us towards a more profound understanding of our connection with God. We will begin with an introduction to The Book of Psalms, delving into Psalms 1 and 2. Subsequent sessions will explore topics such as finding solace in times of depression and disenfranchisement (Psalm 22), expressing gratitude and praise (Psalm 84), seeking protection and inner strength during times of anxiety (Psalm 90), and more.

Finally, we will conclude our study with Psalms of Hope (27 and 51), which remind us of the power of redemption and the transformative nature of God’s love. Along the way, we will also explore Psalms 91, 40, and 30, each offering unique perspectives on praise, thanksgiving, and resilience.

We warmly welcome you to join us on this meaningful journey of self-discovery, spiritual growth, and connection with God. Let us rise from the ashes together and find inspiration in the timeless wisdom of the Psalms. All are welcome, and we look forward to sharing this enriching experience with you.
